Complaints will be accepted in person or in writing. Complaints from individuals, who wish their names be held in confidence, will also be accepted for investigation. You must be specific as to the nature of your complaint.
Complaints shall be filed within 30 calendar days of the occurrence. Complaints presented later that 30 days may be accepted or rejected at the discretion of the Chief of Police. A copy of a signed complaint against an officer shall be given to the officer within a reasonable time after the complaint is filed.
The notification of the complainant is an integral part of a complete investigation. Please allow 30 days to receive an answer to your complaint. If you are complaining about an incident that is under investigation, pending hearing or trial in court, you will only receive a notice stating “Under Investigation”.
