From the desk of the Chief of Police

The Cochran Police Department is under the command of Chief Jon K. Thrower.   Chief Thrower was born March 16, 1963, in Jacksonville, Florida.  He began his law enforcement career with the Cochran Police Department in 1986.  Chief Thrower worked with the Dublin Police Department, the Eastman Police Department, and the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office.
                                                         
Chief Thrower graduated from Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida in 1981.  From 1981 to 1983, Chief Thrower attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia where he majored in Business Administration.  In 1986, Chief Thrower graduated from the Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree and majored in Criminal Justice.

Chief Thrower is a member of the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the Board of Directors.  He is a member of the Cochran-Bleckley County ROTARY Civic Club.  He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Cochran.  Chief Thrower is also a member of the Georgia Association of Chief’s of Police.  Chief Thrower is on the Board of the Oconee Drug Task Force.

Chief Thrower lives in the City of Cochran and is married to Carla Thrower who is teacher at the Bleckley County Middle School.  They have four children, Ashley, 17, Kristen, 17, Trent, 15, and Caroline, 4.

Chief Thrower was appointed to his position of Chief of Police for the City of Cochran on August 13, 2006.  He has three goals for the Cochran Police Department.  First, the police officers will become more professional in their appearance and actions.  Second, the police officers will become more physically fit. Third, all officers of the police department will increase their performance.  Chief Thrower has implemented several new programs to achieve these goals including a monthly physical fitness assessment for each officer.  Chief Thrower looks forward to serving the citizens of the City of Cochran and Bleckley County and encourages any citizen who has a question or suggestion for him or one of the officers to please contact him.
