Calvin Banks

Sergeant Calvin Banks heads the Cochran Police Department Bike Patrol up.  The patrol was established in 2001 and consisted of one officer.  Cochran now has increased their bike patrol to four officers.

Cochran Bike Patrol

Having the Bike Patrol is a great public relations tool.  An Officer has more personal contact with the public and is much more approachable than the one in a patrol car.

Officers on bikes are more likely to catch someone committing crimes in progress because of the “stealth” advantage of a bike.  The officers have the advantage of being able to hear sounds not normally heard and smell odors not normally noticed while patrolling inside a patrol car.  The use of a bike allows officers to go into areas where a patrol car cannot go.  The use of bikes during special events such as parades allows the officer to maneuver through large crowds, greatly increasing crime detection and crowd control.

The bike patrol has been widely accepted by the citizens of Cochran.  Sgt Banks would like to thank everyone for his or her support.
