The Gang Task Force investigates
criminal activities that indicate there is an association to gang related activity and develops an aggressive program combining suppression and intervention tactics.
The Gang Task Force serves as a proactive crime fighting and investigations unit on the street level. This unit serves as a supplement to the
Criminal Investigations Division, often solving crimes before a report can be made and forwarded to an
Investigator.
DEFINITION OF A
CRIMINAL STREET GANG
A gang is a group of
three or more persons who have a common identifying sign, symbol, or
name and whose members individually, or
collectively, engage in or have engaged in a pattern of criminal
activity creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in the
community.
At present, there are a
variety of street gangs in Cochran which meet this criteria.
While the level of gang activity within Cochran may be low compared to
other larger cities, it is still cause for concern. Every type of gang
activity that occurs in heavily infested communities also occurs in
Cochran, only on a less frequent basis. The difference is how the
citizens and law enforcement of Cochran react to the presence of gang
activity. |
